Why is hydrofluoric acid different from other acid burns?

How should calcium gluconate gel be applied?
After removing contaminated clothing and flushing the area with water for at least 20 minutes, apply calcium gluconate gel liberally to and around the affected area. Massage gently into the skin. Reapply every 15 minutes until medical help arrives. All HF exposures require hospital treatment regardless of severity - the gel provides critical first aid but is not definitive treatment.
