Q: When should I use cold versus heat?

A: Cold for acute injuries during the first 48-72 hours. Heat for chronic conditions like muscle stiffness and back pain. Never apply heat to an acute injury as it increases swelling.

Q: Should I apply ice directly to skin?

A: No. Always wrap ice packs in a cloth before skin contact. Direct application can cause cold burns. Apply through a barrier for 15-20 minutes, then remove and allow skin to return to normal temperature.
